JAVELIN ANTI-ARMOUR MISSILE, USA

자벨린은 레이시온/록히드마틴의 자벨린 합동 벤쳐에서 공급하는 휴대용 대전차 무기이다. 이것은 견착사격과 트랙차량, 휠차량, 수륙양용 차량에 탑제가 가능하다.

 

1989년 미 육군은 M47 드래곤 대전차 미사일을 대채하는 자벨린의 개발을 위한 계약을 채결하였다. 자벨린 합동 밴쳐(JAVELIN Joint Venture)는 텍사스주 달라스에 위치한 텍사스 인스투르먼트(현재 Raytheon Missile Systems)와 플로리다주 올란도에 위치한 록히드마틴 엘렉트로닉스와 미사일(현재 Missiles and Fire Control)의 두 회사에 의해서 설립되었다. 레이시온은 명령발사체계, 미사일유도전자체계, 시스템 소프트웨어, 시스템 공학관리를 담당하게 되었고, 록히드마틴은 미사일탐색기, 미사일 공학과 조립을 담당하였다.

 

자벨린은 1994년에 완제품의 생산에 들어갔으며,이 시스템은 1996년 6월에 조지아주의 포트 베닝(Fort Benning)에 있는 미 육군에 처음으로 배치되었다. 9000발이 넘는 미사일이 제작되었다. 자벨린 시스템은 미육군, 미해병대, 오스트레일리아 특수전부대에서 사용되었으며 2003년 3월과 4월에 있었던 "이라크 해방작전"(Operation Iraqi Freedom)에서도 확인되었다.

 

2003년 1월 영국 국방장관은 "경량화 부대의 대전차 유도무기 시스템(LFATGWS)이 요구됨에 따라서 자벨린을 획득하기로 결정하였다"고 공표하였다. 최초 주문은 18개의 런처(발사장치)와 144발의 미사일이었다. 영국군이 운용하는 자벨린은 기존의 밀란(Milan) 시스템을 대신하여 2005년 6월부터 배치되기 시작했다. 자벨린은 영국 육군의 16공중강습여단, 3개 특공(Commando)여단, 기계화 보병이 포함된 신속대응부대(Rapid reaction forces)에 배치된다. 미사일 공급의 하청업체로 BAE Systems사와 몇몇 다른 영국기업들이 선정되었다. 2004년 10월에 또 다른 주문이 나왔는데, 이는 Swingfire ATGW를 대신하여 2007년까지 기계화 보병부대와 수색부대에 배치할 것이었다.

 

자벨린은 또한 대만(발사기60 미사일360), 리투아니아, 요르단(발사기30 미사일110), 오스트레일리아(92개 이상의 발사장치 미사일600), 뉴질랜드(발사기24 2006년부터 인도), 노르웨이(발사기90 미사일526 2006년부터 인도), 아일랜드와 캐나다(발사기200 미사일840)에서 선택되었다. 미국 정부가 자벨린 시스템을 제공하기로한 합의서(Letter of Agreement)에 체코공화국이 2004년 6월에 서명하였다. 2004년 11월에는 아랍 에미리트 연합이 100개의 자벨린 발사기와 미사일 1000발을 판매할것을 요청하였다. 2005년 1월에는 오만이 이 미사일체계를 선택하였으며 여기에는 100개의 발사기와 100발의 미사일이 요구되었다.

 

MISSILE

 

자벨린 시스템은 명령발사장치(CLU)와 탄약으로 이루어진다. 이 명령발사장치의 이동 중량은 6.4Kg이며 수동목표획득하며 사격통제장치에는 열영상시야장비와 주간시야장비가 포함되어 있다. 이 시야장비는 Standard Advanced Dewar Assembly(SADA IIIA)를 기반으로하는 DRS Technologies의 2세대 열영상 이미지 기술을 사용하였다.

 

자벨린 시스템은 명령 발사 유닛(CLU-Commmand Launch Unit)과 발사탄으로 이루어져있다. CLU의 운반 무게는 6.4kg이며 수동 표적 획득장치, 화력통제시스템,관측장치(주간관측장치와 열영상장치가 하나로된)가 통합되어 있다. 관측장비는 DRS테크놀러지의 2세대 열상 이미지 기술을 이용해 Standard Advanced Dewar Assembly에 기반을 두고 있다.

 

The company also provides the quieter, dual-opposed piston coolers for the sight. The gunner's controls for the missile system are on the CLU. The day sight is equipped with x 4 magnification and the night sight with x 4 and x 9 magnification optics.

 

The round consists of the Javelin missile and the ATK (Alliant Techsystems) Launch Tube Assembly.

 

미사일의 사거리는 2500m이다.

 

Javelin is a fire-and-forget missile with lock-on before launch and automatic self-guidance. The missile is equipped with an imaging infrared seeker which is based on a cadmium mercury telluride (CdHgTe) 64 x 64 staring focal plane array in the 8 to 12 micron waveband. BAE Systems Avionics is providing the infrared seekers for the British Army's missiles. The tandem warhead is fitted with two shaped charges: a precursor warhead to initiate explosive reactive armour and a main warhead to penetrate base armour. The propulsion system is a two-stage solid propellant design which provides a minimum smoke soft launch.

 

OPERATI0N

The system is deployed and ready to fire in less than 30s and the reload time is less than 20s. The missile is mounted on the Command Launch Unit and the gunner engages the target using the sight on the CLU, by placing a curser box over the image of the target. The gunner locks on the automatic target tracker in the missile by sending a lock-on-before-launch command to the missile. When the system is locked-on, the missile is ready to fire and the gunner does not carry out post launch tracking or missile guidance. Unlike conventional wire guided, fibre-optic cable guided, or laser beam riding missiles, Javelin is autonomously guided to the target after launch, leaving the gunner free to reposition or reload immediately after launch.

 

A soft launch ejects the missile from the launch tube to give a low-recoil shoulder launch. The soft launch enables firing from inside buildings or covered positions. once the missile is clear, the larger propellant in the second stage is ignited and the missile is propelled towards the target. The weapon has two attack modes, direct or top attack. The gunner selects direct attack mode to engage covered targets, bunkers, buildings and helicopters. The top attack mode is selected against tanks, in which case the Javelin climbs above and strikes down on the target to penetrate the roof of the tank where there is the least armour protection. The missile is launched at an 18° elevation angle to reach a peak altitude of 150m in top attack mode and 50m in direct fire mode.
